Essentially the Magic Scouts are a a magical-version of the Boy/Girl Scouts in the Thaumaturgaea Story. It is not separated by gender. Elementary school aged children can earn badges for very basic magic activities. It also helps to ease kids into the possibilities of magic and help them get early practice with it under proper supervision and guidance. Scouts that are noted with a particularly high aptitude for magic will be recommended for magic school later in life.

The Magic Scouts are mainly done during elementary school (roughly 1st to 6th grade) because in the Thaumaturgaea Story, elementary schools do not teach magic at all. They focus on what ordinary elementary schools teach: reading, writing, math, basic science, social skills, and so on. An actual magic school usually covers 7th to 12th grade, basically covering actual middle school and high school in the real world. For more information on how schools are set up in this setting, please see the Pre-college Schools in Thaumaturgaea page.

Being part of the Magic Scouts are not a requirement for being accepted into a magic school, but it can be a great boost to the child’s skills.
