Humans in Thaumaturgaea

There are no elves/orcs/etc. in the Thaumaturgaea Story, but instead humans also have some traits associated with those fantasy races. Major discrimination has happened in the past based on these traits, but in modern times people are accepting that this is wrong and discouraging it more and more, much like with racism and sexism. This type of discrimination is no necessarily completely gone, but societies in Thaumaturgaea tend to lean more and more on not letting people get away with such actions.

These traits can happen regardless of the normal "human race" of a person (Asian, black, etc.), and grant no special advantages. However, there are 'preceived'/stereotyped assumptions based on these traits, much like with human races in the real world.

Note that this page is not set up using the Races template because it is not technically about a whole separate/original race. This is just discussing how humans work in the Thaumaturgaea setting.

Examples

The following are examples of how humans can look in the Thaumaturgaea setting.

  • "Elves" = Humans with pointed ears, usually taller on average than other humans.
  • "Dwarves" = Dwarfism in humans (i.e. little people) is just far more common in this setting
  • "Orcs" = Have lower tusks, sometimes upper instead of or as well as the lower tusks. Sometimes these are not too prominent in some people. Most are also more naturally muscular/stocky/etc. than other humans
  • "Demons" = Humans with horns, usually small horns, of various shapes. Sometimes they also have 'darker' eyes (i.e. whites of eyes are more black).
  • "Cyclops" = Humans with one eye, much like an actual cyclops.
  • "Giants" = Giantism in humans is just more common in this setting
  • "Beast Men" = Humans with animal ears in place of human ears, and they also sometimes have a tail. For birds and insects, humans have feathers/insect wings on their ears. For reptiles, humans have smaller ears and a reptile tail.
  • "Ocean Folk" = Humans with fish scales on the sides of their neck (non-functional "gills"), and usually webbed hands and feet. Humans having fused legs are also an occurrence in this setting. This is similar to mermaid syndrome, but in this case these humans have no risk of dying due to this specific condition.
  • "Treants" = Humans with rougher skin (i.e. "bark"), and also leaf-like or flower-like hair.

Unusual hair/eye colors (at least compared to real life) are also naturally occurring in Thaumaturgaea. Examples are colors like pink, magenta, purple, gold, silver, white, and so on. Some are rarer than others, but they do naturally occur to some degree.

Heterochromia eyes and vitiligo skin are also a bit more common in this setting, with no ill effects of either. In particular with vitiligo, it does not progress nor can it be reversed, it is simply that people just get born with a set of skin spots/markings, sometimes as things like stripes and special patterns.
