Doña Sapphira is the head of the Janitor Menagerie. She is a Celestirit who has control over water, space, and gravity.

Description

Note that She is properly referred to as Doña Sapphira, but Madam Sapphira is acceptable for those who find "Doña" difficult to pronounce. For reference, Doña is pronounced as "doh-NYAH". She is usually referred to as The Doña by Her employees.

She looks like a dolls based off a human woman without clothes, though also without any breasts or genitalia. Her body looks as if it is made out of space, with stars and all, while Her eyes look like the surface of a moon and Her hair looks like a long aurora. The Doña is pretty laid back and sociable, and fairly grandmotherly to Her employees, especially new ones. She is always honest, sometime brutally so, especially to anyone who decides to be rude to Her. She makes sure that all employees are well-paid and cared for throughout their time with the Menagerie.

Backstory

The Three Deities

A unfathomably long time ago, there were three Celestirits who wandered together in [[the Nothingness]]. They were Rubyo, Emeralde, and Sapphira. All three would observe the Stories they encountered. Sapphira felt sorry for many of the protagonists She saw, especially those who were very close to achieving a positive ending for their respective Stories.

Meanwhile, Rubyo would nitpick every single Story, with comments like "Not enough action", "Too much action", "Needs more risqué stuff", all just for the sake of annoying or upsetting the other two. As the Doña put it while reflecting on what happened, Rubyo fully admitted that this had always been His intention. Meanwhile, Emeralde tried to keep the peace between the two, insisting on being "the noble middleman" and not taking either side.

Sapphira grew more and more frustrated with this, until it got to the point where Rubyo was outright destroying Stories, justifying it by saying they would have ended horribly anyways. Emeralde was as cowardly as before, and tried to 'help' Sapphira accept that maybe Rubyo was right. Sapphira could no longer stand for Rubyo's cruelty, nor Emeralde's cowardice. She fought Rubyo, and successfully harmed Him, such that he was not destroyed but instead would no longer be powerful enough to destroy Stories ever again. Meanwhile, Sapphira forced Emeralde to watch over Rubyo and ensure that He could never do the same amount of harm that He did before. Emeralde realized that what They did was wrong, but at this point watching over Rubyo was the least They could do to make up for what had been done.

And so, Sapphira left the two other deities, and never spoke with either deity again.

Observation of Stories

Now, Sapphira decided to protect and help as many Stories as she could. She claimed a large part of the Nothingness (which to us would seem practically infinite) as Her territory, fighting off other Celestirits until it was clear that She would not allow grievous harm to the Stories that She cared for. At first, She was content with allowing Stories under Her watch to develop on their own, with no outside interference. However, She continued to see what She saw before: Stories where the protagonists were very close to achieving their goals, but then failed due to unfortunate circumstances or even outright poor luck. Ultimately, Sapphira could not stand for this, and tried to find ways to help these Stories have a proper and fair chance of a Good End.

She knew that helping the protagonists directly would not be fair, and could cause harm to the overall Story as well. So She tried to help them indirectly, such as creating and leaving behind items that the protagonists could find and use much later. Unfortunately, the first time She tried to change a Story directly, it led to the Story itself being destroyed by accident. Sapphira greatly mourned the loss of this Story.

For a long while She left the other Stories in Her territory alone, in fear of destroying them by accident again. Eventually, She realized it was mostly due to Her great power as a Celestirit which made it so that interacting with Stories, even if She was careful to not directly help the protagonists, would cause them to become unstable. And thus, Sapphira realized She needed help in order to help others.

Founding of the Janitor Menagerie

Sapphira thought long and hard about how She could go about helping the Stories she was protecting. In the end, She decided it would be best to guide others to do so. She would ensure they were not directly interacting with the events of the main Story as well as its Characters, and only making indirect changes that would ultimately help give a Story a fair chance of reaching a Good End, even if it wasn't always a guarantee. As a result, the Janitor Menagerie was founded, with Sapphira acting as the leader of this organization, and now referring to Herself as Doña Sapphira. She gathered people together from across different Stories and made sure they would both be able to help and be well-paid for their work. And so, the Janitor Menagerie has existed for a long time, and will continue to exist and grow with new employees. Though not every Story has managed to get a Good End from the Menagerie, a multitude of other Stories have been saved from an unfair fate.

Since the founding of the Menagerie, the Doña has done her best to keep things running smoothly. Due to her power, she of course stays out of trying to help Stories directly, instead focusing on fighting off outside threats from the Nothingness. She still very much hates Rubyo and Emeralde for what they did during their relationship. She wants nothing to do with either of them, and has not have contact with the two since She left them. She learned from Her experiences with them to never be a doormat for anyone ever again.

Abilities

The Doña has the ability to manipulate water, space, and gravity, as well as cast magic and spells themed around these elements. Note that for space, this means outer space, and covers anything related to outer space, such as stars/galaxies/moon/auroras/etc. This is separate from space in terms of physical 3D space. Due to her large size, she is also of course physical powerful based on size alone. She can also manifest objects from or into Stories, though not living beings. This manifestation ability is how she is able to pay her employees. She generally takes from characters who have more than enough money and/or valuables that they wouldn't notice a small piece of it being missing.

Trivia

  • She always refers to people with nicknames. In particular, a shortened version of their preferred name (or part of their name) and ending with -ito/-ita/-ite. This is the Spanish equivalent of given people a nickname by shortening their name and ending it with -y or -ie. (Examples: Zach = Zachito, Hali = Halita, etc.)
  • The Doña is very good at sewing, crocheting, etc. She and Von Guayaba have a little knitting/needlework club as well. The Doña loves in particular to make tapestries that chronicle a particular Story. She does this to help remember the past Stories that the Menagerie managed to help.
