Silhoubim

The term Silhoubim is a combination of the words silhouette and cherubim. Note that Silhoubim is the plural form, while the singular form is Silhoub.

They are sometimes referred to as “Silhouettes” or “Shades”, though both terms are incorrect (the first term is outdated, the second term refers to a phenomenon in some magical Stories where a person dies and their soul possesses their shadow in an attempt to keep living; the later can happen anytime, but does not result in a Silhoub unless it happens at the same time across multiple realities/stories). Silhoubim are beings created from a person who dies in an intense manner across multiple Storylines within a Story, roughly at the same time (even with how Stories exist in the Nothingness, time is still a thing).

Appearance

Silhoubim can have a very wide range of appearances, but generally they look like shadow-like beings. Their appearance tends to be at least somewhat themed around, or otherwise related to, how they died before becoming a Silhoub.

Origins

They will first appear in the Everlasting Necropolis, in their own specific grave. The Necropolis is a layer of existence 'within' the Nothingness, though it is neither a Miran nor its own Story. This location is an endless graveyard, with graves of all sizes, shapes, and styles. It is also always raining and foggy, though the rain does not cause any flooding or erosion issues.

Abilitites

If more of the lives of the person the Silhoub is made from died by the same method, then the Silhoub will be more powerful. The method of Death will also be incorporated into its abilities, as well as perhaps some of its Hobbies when it was alive. However, most Silhoubim have Hobbies that end up related to their Deaths, so their abilities tend to be in a similar category.

All Silhoubim have four sets of powers: shadow-related powers, death/decay related powers, attacking/active abilities related to their Death, and passive/non-combative (or at least not too combative) abilities related to their Hobbies.

Examples of Silhoubim

The following are examples of named Silhoubim in the Storyverse setting:

  • Wilhelm, an immortal Silhoub. he is in fact one of the strongest Silhoubim encountered by the Janitor Menagerie so far. He has died 1024 times, all by strangulation/crushed windpipe.
  • -; shapely Silhoub with no arms, hooded cape, and daggers stabbed into her; Death = Stabbing (589 deaths, 490 of them by stabbing; she worked as a daredevil mostly, and a thief in secret. In most of her past lives, the stabbing was usually the result of a failed knife-throwing stunt, or getting stabbed while attempting robbery Hobby = Agility (sort of a combination of her being a daredevil and a thief; also includes great sneaking ability)
  • -; large brutish Silhoub with a dented head; Death = Crushed head (467 deaths, 452 of them by crushed head) Hobby = Metalworking (he was originally a blacksmith in most of his lives)
  • -; basically SHODAN from System Shock; Death = Electrocution (734 deaths, 608 of them by electrocution) Hobby = Programming
  • -; basically La Llorona as a Silhoub; Death = Drowning (409 deaths, 312 of them by drowning) Hobby = Sewing
  • -; a very mean-spirited and egotistical chef; Death = Food Poisoning (283 deaths, 231 of them by food poisoning) Hobby = Cooking (an example of where his Death and Hobby greatly overlap)
  • Wyatt, a member of the Morbid Mayhem!! crew.
