Scrivenions

The term Scrivenion is a combination of the words scrivener and Dominion.

Scrivenions are obsessed with copying and recording information from Stories. This comes in the form of books, videos, audio recordings, art pieces of significant scenes from a Story, preserving samples of all sorts of things from a Story, manuals describing how to do certain things in the setting of a Story, etc. Some Scrivenions will sometimes embellish a Story’s record “just a little bit”, usually to their own tastes and opinions, which means the information housed in the Ideasphere may not even be completely accurate.

Appearance

They look like humans of various natural skin tones, with origami in place of their heads. They all wear eyeglasses, with lenses made of stained glass with various colors. Their origami heads can appear as any sort of origami, from cranes to flowers to shapes that are no analogous to anything within most Stories. They’re highly skilled in recording with all sorts of tools, as well as arts and sciences, though mostly for the purpose of recording/copying something from a Story.

Origins

The Ideasphere itself is the place from which Scrivenions originate. Scrivenions are made from souls that yearn to leave a mark on a Story or gather/understand information about their world, but fail to do either. These souls manage to leave a Story upon its completion, and make their way into the Ideasphere to become Scrivenions. This location is a seemingly endless group of libraries, which are all interconnected and evershifting. It is a layer of existence 'within' the Nothingness, though it is neither a Miran nor its own Story.

The Ideasphere is also home to other animals and creatures, all of which are made of paper and origami folds. There are even plants and flowers made of paper scattered about the libraries, both in planting containers and even growing out of/along the walls and floors. To wander the Ideasphere without a Scrivenion to guide you is ill-advised.

Abilities

Their powers include the ability to understand and/or learning something (be it a skill or just information) very quickly, speak and understand any language, and appear as normal humans (or whatever the dominant native humanoid species of a Story is) to collect information. They’re also adept at magic, though most Scrivenions do not bother with their magic much beside learning a few spells to defend themselves, or otherwise make their recording easier and faster to complete.

Most do not seem to be interested in writing their own original and fictional stories as their 'main' job, just recording as much information from an actual Story as possible. You could compare them to very dedicated Wiki editors, in a way. Still, a few do write fan fiction of the various Stories they record, but only very rarely will a Scrivenion write a more original piece.

Scrivenions spend their days researching and recording the events/knowledge/etc. of a Story, debating the themes and other values of a Story amongst themselves, and reading old Story records in the Ideasphere. Despite their object head state, they’re still capable of eating and drink (though they seem to produce no waste). They are quite partial to tea, coffee, dairy, grains (including bread), fruits, legumes (includes, beans, peas, and lentils) and various desserts. Most Scrivenions seem to be not very fond of meat of any kind, nor most vegetables beside legumes. They seem to prefer to use certain vegetables for seasoning for their other preferred foods, such as using onions and tomatoes to add flavor to black beans, but not as a main part of a given dish. Overall, it seems most Scrivenions have a sweet tooth.

• Ryōichi Ogawa, the current head of the Society for the Accurate Preservation of Knowledge.
• Parono, an immortal Scrivenion with a horrible ego.
